Parking

Parking outside the house is residents only. If you are bringing a car, please send your registration number in advance and we will arrange a visitor permit if needed.

Bristol also has a Clean Air Zone. The house is not in the zone, but depending on your route into Clifton you may pass through it.

Heating

The heating runs on a timed programme and is controlled from the thermostat in the kitchen. If you would like it warmer, simply raise the target temperature to override the schedule.

Getting here

  • From Bristol Airport: A taxi is the easiest option. Uber picks up from the short-stay car park. Arrow Cars are outside the terminal, and BDriven can be pre-booked if you prefer to have something arranged in advance.
  • From Temple Meads: The house is walkable via Queen Square and the harbour, though a taxi or Uber is much easier if you have bags.
  • By car: Please let us know in advance if you will need visitor parking.

Quick house basics

  • Tea, instant coffee and sugar are on the shelf above the kettle.
  • Coffee pods are in the wooden container next to the Nespresso machine.
  • Dishwasher tablets and cleaning products are under the sink.
  • For short stays, there is no need to take the rubbish out before you leave.

House Guide

Practical notes for the house

The notes below cover the details that are most useful once you are in and settled. Open whichever section you need.

Kitchen
  • Please help yourself to the kitchen appliances and utensils.
  • Tea, instant coffee and sugar are on the shelf above the kettle.
  • Coffee pods are in the wooden container next to the Nespresso machine.
  • Milk and a few basic essentials may be in the fridge. If you use the last of something, please replace it when convenient.
  • Dishwasher tablets and cleaning products are under the sink.
Laundry and utility
  • The washing machine and tumble dryer are in the outbuilding on the left as you walk into the garden.
  • The tumble dryer is a condenser dryer, so please empty the water container after each run.
  • Pull out the drawer at the top left and empty it into the outside drain.
  • Mop and bucket are in the utility room.
  • The iron is in the kitchen cabinet to the right of the sink, and the ironing board is behind the fridge.
Rubbish and recycling
  • The small bin by the front door has two compartments: the right side is for general waste and the left side is for mixed recycling.
  • Food waste goes in the small food caddy.
  • For longer stays, the larger bins are in the black shed on the left side of the garden steps.
  • Collection day is Thursday, so Wednesday evening is the right time if you do need to put bins out.
Living room and entertainment
  • Most living room lamps are connected to one switch and are controlled by a remote that should be left somewhere visible.
  • The main overhead light switch is behind the plant next to the stereo system.
  • Board games are behind the sofa.
  • Use the TV remote to switch on the television. The Sky box has its own separate remote.
  • Streaming services available include Netflix, Apple TV and Sky TV.
  • Alexa speakers are in the kitchen, living room and bedrooms.
Bedrooms and windows
  • In the top bedroom, the Velux blinds use the remote left on top of the mirror above the sinks.
  • A special pole is used to open the Velux windows for fresh air.
Garden
  • Please enjoy the garden in good weather.
  • Cushions for the seats, coal for the BBQ and the hanging hammock seat are stored in the shed at the far end of the garden.
  • The switch for the hanging garden lights is on the wall between the utility room and the bin shed.

Easy ideas for a day out

If you are wondering where to start, these routes make for an easy and very Bristol sort of day.

Clifton village and Suspension Bridge

Head uphill via Polygon Lane and Hensman Hill, browse the independent shops and cafes in Clifton village, then continue on to the bridge.

  • Carry on to Bristol Museum, the Wills Memorial Building and Park Street if you fancy a longer walk.
  • The bridge is one of Bristol’s most iconic landmarks.

Harbour walk and city centre loop

Walk downhill from the house towards the harbour and make a loop around the waterfront for one of the best easy rambles in the city.

  • Possible stops include SS Great Britain, M Shed, Wapping Wharf, the Matthew, Arnolfini and Bristol Cathedral.
  • It is also a great route for street art, waterside views and a bit of people-watching.
  • The Bristol Ferry is a fun optional stretch if you would like to do part of the route by water.
